Jäkäläkangas wind farm generates electricity – ahead of schedule

Ilmatar has commenced commercial electricity production at the Jäkäläkangas wind farm in Karvia. The project was completed ahead of schedule.

Ilmatar’s 30-megawatt (MW) wind farm in Western Finlands’ Karvia, Jäkäläkangas is now generating renewable energy for the Finnish power grid. The commercial production phase started on Tuesday, October 10th.

“Construction began in July 2022, and the park was completed ahead of the planned schedule. Jäkäläkangas is part of a project comprising four wind farms, all of which are expected to be completed by the end of the year,” says Director of Construction Projects Petri Ainonen.

The Jäkäläkangas wind farm consists of five 6 MW Vestas wind turbines, with their combined output covering the electricity needs of approximately 40,000 Finnish apartments or 5,000 electrically heated detached houses.

In line with Ilmatar’s strategy, the Jäkäläkangas wind farm will remain in Ilmatar’s ownership throughout its entire lifecycle. Technical and commercial management is handled by Ilmatar Service Oy.
