Background

Ilmatar is planning a wind farm with a capacity of approximately 140 to 290 MW in the Merijärvi area in Northern Ostrobothnia. The Kettukangas development area is located on the southeastern border of Merijärvi, an area that extends to the southeast and northwest of the Hillurahka Nature Reserve.

The area is planned for a maximum of 29 wind turbines, with a maximum of 23 turbines located within the Merijärvi area and 6 turbines in the Oulainen area. The turbines have a maximum sweep height of 350 meters. The planned start of construction for the Kettukangas wind farm is around 2026, with production expected to commence around 2027.

Upon completion, Ilmatar Service Oy, a subsidiary of Ilmatar Energy, will take over the wind farm’s technical and commercial management.

Ilmatar is furthering the Kettukangas wind farm project towards the construction phase through its project company, Ilmatar Merijärvi Oy, which is domiciled in Merijärvi.

The Ilmatar zoning initiative has been approved in both the municipality of Merijärvi and the city of Oulainen in 2022, and the zoning initiation meeting and the preliminary environmental impact assessment (EIA) consultation were held in early 2023. AFRY Finland Oy is the consulting company responsible for the zoning and EIA process.
