Background

The Palma wind farm site is located in a hilly area north-east from Somero city centre. The area is in forestry use. High-quality wind conditions, distance to residential areas and compatibility with existing land use purposes make the site a suitable area for wind power production.

The project will comprise four 2-5 MW wind turbines that are expected to generate over 40 GWh of clean power per year once commenced.

Project Development

As part of the planning decision the surrounding areas’ nature values have been analysed and a thorough environmental impact assessment has been conducted.

Building permits have been granted for four turbine locations.

The parallel use of the wind farm areas for example in recreational and berry picking purposes will be allowed also after the wind farm has been commissioned.

Asset management

Ilmatar Service Oy, a subsidiary of Ilmatar Energy, will take over the wind farm’s technical and commercial management once the project has been commissioned.

Ownership

Ilmatar is developing the project through its project company, Ilmatar Somero Oy, which is domiciled in Somero.

Current status

The project is currently in construction phase and is expected to start generating power in early 2020s.
