Background

Ilmatar is exploring the potential of a wind power project in the eastern part of Seinäjoki. Initially, a maximum of about 16 wind turbines could be placed in the area.

Ilmatar has submitted a zoning initiative for the wind power project to the City of Seinäjoki, which has been approved by the Seinäjoki City Council on 11 April 2022. The number of wind turbines, their placement and the zoning area will become more precise as the zoning process and future studies progress.

The project has received strong support from landowners. Landowners are encouraged to contact Ilmattare if they have not yet signed an agreement.

Timetable

The participation and assessment plan (OAS) and the environmental impact assessment (EIA) plan were open for public consultation from 2 June to 1 July 2022. The next step in the project will be the preparation of a draft plan and EIA report, which will be made available for public consultation in late spring 2023.

Estimated adoption of the plan would take place in 2024, depending on the timetable for the South Ostrobothnia regional planning process.
