Background
Ilmatar is planning a wind farm with a production capacity of approximately 50–70 MW in Siliäkangas, located in the municipality of Karvia in Satakunta. The Siliäkangas development area is located approximately 6 kilometres north of the municipal centre of Karvia, bordering both the town of Kauhajoki and the region of South Ostrobothnia.
The tentative plan is to build about 7 turbines to an area of approximately 1,450 ha. The final number of turbines, their location and the planning area shall be determined in the next few years during the investigation and land-use planning process. There are a number of factors contributing to the end result, such as statements, opinions and discussions with stakeholders related to the impact of the land-use plan and the environmental impact assessment (EIA).
Present situation
The municipal executive board of Karvia approved Ilmatar Energy’s land-use planning proposal in its meeting on October 17, 2022. The full process takes approximately two years. The Siliäkangas wind farm is estimated to commence production no earlier than 2027.
Asset management
Upon completion, Ilmatar Service Oy, a subsidiary of Ilmatar Energy, will take over the wind farm’s technical and commercial management.
Ownership
Ilmatar is furthering the Siliäkangas wind farm project towards the construction phase through its project company, Ilmatar Karvia Oy, which is domiciled in Karvia.
Schedule
Construction in Siliäkangas is projected to start in 2026 or 2027 with power generation set to commence around 2027.
