Background

Ilmatar is planning a wind park with a capacity of approximately 120-180 MW in Kristiinankaupunki, in the Ostrobothnia region of Finland. The planning area for Västervik 2 is situated in the southern part of Kristiinankaupunki, expanding to the west and north of the currently under-construction Västervik wind park.

The area is designed to accommodate a maximum of 18 turbines, with a maximum hub height of 350 meters. The final number, placement, and zoning details of the wind turbines will be determined in the coming years through the assessment and zoning process, which will take into consideration factors such as environmental impact assessments (EIA), statements, opinions, and discussions with stakeholders.

Current status

Ilmatar submitted a zoning initiative to Kristiinankaupunki in the spring of 2023, and it is anticipated to be reviewed by the city in October 2023. If the zoning initiative is approved, the zoning process can commence in parallel with the EIA procedure, which will assess the project’s environmental impacts. The zoning process is expected to take approximately two years. The planned start of production for Västervik 2 wind park would be no earlier than 2028.

Ilmatar is advancing the Västervik 2 wind project through the project company Ilmatar Kristiinankaupunki 2 Oy, with its registered office located in Kristiinankaupunki.
