Backround

The Humppila-Urjala wind farm site is split between the northern part of Humppila and the south-western part of Urjala, at the border of Tavastia Proper and Pirkanmaa regions. The area is currently in forestry and peat production use. High-quality wind conditions, distance to residential areas and compatibility with existing land use purposes make the site a suitable area for wind power production.

The commercial production began on January 17th 2023.

Project development

Partial land use plans have been prepared for the areas and the plans were accepted by the cities of Humppila and Urjala in 2015. The plans allow constructing wind turbines with tip heights up to 210m. The environmental impacts of the project have been thoroughly assessed as part of the land use plan process.

The parallel use of the wind farm areas for example in recreational and berry picking purposes will be allowed also after the wind farm has been commissioned.

Asset management

Ilmatar Service Oy, a subsidiary of Ilmatar Energy, will take over the wind farm’s technical and commercial management once the project has been commissioned.

Ownership

Ilmatar Energy’s project company, Ilmatar Humppila-Urjala Oy, acquired the project rights from Voimamylly Oy in 2019.
