Background

The Palma wind power production area is located in hilly terrain northeast of the centre of Somero. High-quality wind conditions, distance to residential areas and compatibility with existing land-use purposes in the Palma area make it favourable for the production of wind power.

Palma features four 4.3-megawatt wind turbines. The Palma turbines are expected to produce approximately 50 gigawatt hours of clean energy per year.

The planning requirement decision granted for the project included investigations regarding the natural value of the area and a comprehensive environmental impact assessment of the wind farm. Both were concluded in 2012. In 2015, the Palma wind farm was granted building permits for four turbines.

Parallel use of the wind farm area for other activities, including berry picking, will continue to be allowed once the wind farm has been commissioned.

Upon completion, Ilmatar Service Oy, a subsidiary of Ilmatar Energy, will take over the wind farm’s technical and commercial management.

Ilmatar owns the Palma project through its subsidiary Ilmatar Somero Oy, which is domiciled in Somero.
